At the end of the academic year 2016/2017, a Memorandum of Academic and Scientific Cooperation was signed between the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) and the Human Life Advancement Foundation (HLAF) from Malaysia.
HLAF is an active foundation which provides the developing countries with aid in education, scientific research, technology transfer, and sustainable development. Its mission is to develop a network of organizations and internationally competent individuals capable of contributing to their communities. The Foundation was established by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, His Excellency Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who is also the current chair of the Foundation.
Having signed the Memorandum, the International University of Sarajevo was provided with the opportunity to grant yearly scholarships to four students or researchers enrolled in doctoral or postdoctoral studies. The scholarships will be available to the students, researchers, and academic staff at IUS as of the beginning of the academic year 2017/2018.
The maximum amount of annual scholarship for doctoral studies is USD 15,000, whereas it is USD 35,000 for the postdoctoral studies. The scholarship covers tuition fees, books, life expenses and more. The financing period is up to four years for the doctoral and twelve months for the postdoctoral studies, with the possibility of contract extension.
The initiative for the Memorandum between IUS and HLAF was undertaken by the respected rector of IUS, Prof. Dr. Tahsin Erkan Türe, and Prof. Dr. Asif Šabanović, a member of the Board of Trustees of IUS, who is now a retired professor at Sabanci University in Istanbul (Turkey).
